Fermented drinks are a delicious dose of goodness for your gut, low in sugar and packed full of beneficial acids, lactic bacteria, enzymes and antioxidants. These tasty drinks are easy to make at home, take minimal time and are far more affordable and delicious than the shop bought versions.
During the class, you will sample several different types of probiotic drinks and enjoy a light supper including fermented vegetables. You will learn how about first fermentation with kombucha and kefier as well as secondary fermentation to create your own flavours and the lovely natural fizz, how to care for your scoby & kefir grains, what equipment to use and a bit about the science behind fermentation. You will leave with knowledge, recipes and live cultures to start your own fermentation journey at home.
- Kombucha – fermented drink from sweetened tea
- Water kefir – fermented drink made from kefir grains
- Tepache – fragrant pineapple drink
- Fruit Kvass – fruit version of the Russian brew
Natural Cookery School recipes are inspired by the season. Classes are a combination of hands-on and demonstration, with plenty of added tips and knife skills. You will work in small groups in our teaching kitchen, creating the recipes and tasting along the way. We'll enjoy a shared meal at the end of the class, so please bring a container in case of leftovers... You will be provided with an apron to use for the day and recipe packs to take home. No washing up necessary as we have someone on hand to take care of that.
